Sarah Gavagan

Sarah Gavagan

My name is Sarah Gavagan.

I’m an illustrator with a love for fantasy creatures, sprawling environments and cool weapons. I enjoy video games and making breakfast. I get excited at the prospect of travel.

I’m currently interning and drinking all of the coffee at Firaxis Games, creators of XCOM and Civilizations.

Long enough ago, I was born and raised in Connecticut. I had always been excited to draw, perhaps incentivized by that coveted spot on the refrigerator, and filled tons of white copier paper with drawings of cats, horses and dragons. In middle school I came across animation, and since then have always wanted to work with entertainment.

I later studied illustration at the Maryland Institute College of Art, taking a semester abroad to study Japanese at the Osaka Gakuin University and Lithography at the Osaka University of the Arts. For seven months I

gallivanted across the Kansai region, went to every cat cafe, and got lost on top of a volcano in Hokkaido.

My name is Sarah Gavagan.

I’m an illustrator with a passion for creating fantasy creatures, sprawling environments and colorful, expressive characters. I work digitally as well as in oils, watercolor and printmaking. My work often focuses on storytelling, mythology, and the fragile balance between nature and humanity.

I have worked as an concept and UI artist at Typhoon Studios in Montréal and at Firaxis Games in Baltimore, working on character, landscape, creature designs, key images, and HUD and other UI assets. I'm currently living in Seattle.

I graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art with a BFA in Illustration. I've also studied Japanese at Osaka Gakuin University 大阪学院大学 and Lithography at the Osaka University of the Arts 大阪芸術大学.
