My name is Sarah Gavagan.
I’m a Japan-based illustrator. I’ve worked on a variety of different projects from book covers, animation backgrounds, and games. I’ve worked with Cartoon Network, Chicago Press Review, Waking One Games, and a ton of other developers and independent clients.
My passion is with fantasy creatures, sprawling environments and colorful, expressive characters. My work often focuses on color and lighting as a means of storytelling and mood setting. I also have a deep love for journaling and documenting food and travel destinations in pen and watercolor. You can read some of my misadventures here!
I graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art with a BFA in Illustration. I've also studied Japanese at Osaka Gakuin University 大阪学院大学 and Lithography at the Osaka University of the Arts 大阪芸術大学.
